- 421 Intensive Tibetan Module I
- 422 Intensive Tibetan Module II
These two-session (four-week) modules undertake the intensive study of both literary and spoken Tibetan for the serious student with no previous experience in the language. The level of instruction will be similar to taking a university-level course in Tibetan language. In making their curricular choices, students should be aware that these courses will be demanding both in class and preparation time, which will impact their ability to take the full course load of the core curriculum.
Module 1 students begin their study of the grammar of literary Tibetan. Module 2 students continue their study of grammar in conjunction with reading selections from indigenous Tibetan texts, such as The Jewel Ornament of Liberation by Gampopa. Instructors for the course are both Tibetan and Western.
- 431 Introduction to Tibetan Alphabet & Pronunciation
This course is geared for students who wish to learn how to write and pronounce the Tibetan alphabet, as well as learn basic dharma vocabulary. Students will learn to recognize individual Tibetan words and syllables, be able to pronounce them, and look them up in a dictionary. This is meant to be an easy, low-key course accessible to all students willing to apply themselves with modest effort .
